Chronic Pain

There is little research evidence to support the efficacy of exercise alone for the treatment of patients with chronic pain. There is moderate research evidence supporting the implementation of the biopsychosocial approach involving exercise and moment, education, knowledge and understanding for the treatment and management of chronic pain.

Key concepts in this approach includes developing the patients understanding of:

- the multiple factors that drive the cycle of pain and disability;

- the notion that pain does not always mean injury;

- the role of the brain and central nervous system in chronic pain;

- exercise and movement and pacing up their daily activity despite their persisting symptoms.
